We MOVED on December 28, 2010!  Please give us some time to shoot and upload new photos to this site.

What is the Gold Country Library?

Gold Country Library (GCL) is a project in the virtual world of Second Life® being built and operated by Dave Bloch, a long-time Webmaster and a resident of Second Life since 2007.

The GCL itself is a virtual building, located in a region with many other library and museum projects. Some of these are run by individuals; others by organizations as large as major universities and organizations like the American Library Association.

The mission of GCL is to bring to Second Life some of the works of artists, authors and musicians of California’s Gold Rush Country in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.  Although some of these materials may already be available online in library Websites, the Second Life connection opens these materials to a new worldwide audience, the millions of people who “live” and explore this virtual world.

The first displays in the GCL link to the Nevada County Library in Nevada City, California, where Dave was the Webmaster for many years. The Photo Page of this Website will show you some of those displays with the same working links available in the real (that is, the virtual) GCL.

GCL is in its infancy as Dave searches for more materials available online.  If you know of a source, please send an Email!  Or, if you are a Second Life resident yourself, stop by the GCL or send an IM to Dave’s avatar, Dale Irata

Thanks for your interest in the Gold Country Library!
